We needed to hire a reputable arborist who could do the job efficiently and effectively. We began our search and enlisted the help of my team in vetting different arborists in Ottawa; these are the ones that made the shortlist.

Croft Tree Experts is a relatively new business, having started in 2015. Despite this, it has built a solid reputation as an arborist and has a loyal client base. After trying their services, it became clear why that was the case.
For one, the customer experience was seamless. We never felt lost about the next steps because they provided a clear plan of action after their assessment. In turn, we were able to promptly prepare anything needed on our end without any issues.
The crew also executed the plan for removing our tree efficiently and with great attention to detail. We were impressed because they finished the work earlier than expected.
During their site visit, they expertly identified issues with our other trees that led to early intervention. We’re grateful for that.
We do wish they had more consistent working hours, though. They close earlier on Fridays and Saturdays, which can be difficult to keep track of at times.
The crew was great
Absolutely fabulous service. We had a tree emergency, the owner stopped on his way home from work to assess and had the crew address it the following morning at 8am. The crew was great, informed our neighbours in a friendly and courteous manner, got to work, managed to save the flowers and stonework that was in the way, cleaned up and were finished within a couple of hours. Cannot recommend them highly enough
Top notch service. Top notch price. Croft Tree Experts were recommended to me by my neighbour and the provided fast and professional service in taking down my Manitoba Maple in the backyard. I had also shopped around beforehand and they gave me full confidence behind their very competitive price. There were three guys who came and started early before they were even scheduled to show. They got to work right away and also cleaned up after themselves. Would definitely recommend them. Kyle and Kristy were also professional and I got to use my new customer discount which was a plus. We called Wright Tree Service for a complex tree emergency while visiting our friend’s home. Something that stood out to us about them was their genuine excitement for what they do, which made working with them feel lighter and more productive.
Their team of arborists was competent and efficient, and would walk you through the entire process. They may not have the widest range of services on this list, but we found them to be a good option if you need more intensive tree services.
This includes cabling, bracing, moving trees, fertilizing roots, and obtaining necessary permits. We like that their crew was meticulous and respectful of the space and that their results were clean and seamless.
We were also surprised that their quality services don’t come with a hefty price tag; the rates are reasonable.
Clearly passionate about all things tree related
Amazing experience! We had a number of different companies out for an estimate to remove a dead tree, and were immediately impressed with Jonathan from Wright, who took his time to tour our entire property, helping us identify various species. He was clearly passionate about all things tree related, expression genuine excitement about some of the more rare species on our land. When the quote came through we were thrilled – we’d already agreed we’d be choosing Wright given our experience with Jonathan, even if it was on the pricier side, but out of the 4 companies, they were the second lowest, and we signed immediately. We’ll definitely be having Jonathan out again to assist us in the future!

Tim O Tree is a family-owned company renowned for its reliable tree services, including tree trimming, removal, planting, stump grinding, and hedge trimming. It has been around since 2005 and gained popularity mostly through word of mouth.
We found out about them through a close neighbor who needed to have some trees removed. We were able to see them in action, and we noticed how systematically they work. The crew was efficient, competent, and very friendly.
Knowing that they’ll cause a lot of noise, they did their due diligence and even informed their client’s neighbors. We liked that they were considerate and mindful of the shared spaces.
As for their working relationship with our neighbor, it was hassle-free, according to her. The staff communicates promptly; no need for constant follow-ups. She needed to obtain a permit, and they took care of that for her.
They even cleaned up after themselves. They may not be the biggest tree business in this list, but their brand of intentional customer service makes them well-deserving of a spot.
It certainly exceeded our expectations
Of all the companies in whatever trade that we have had for work at the house, Tim-O-Tree stands heads and shoulders above them all! From the first meeting with Rebecca, who provided the estimate, to the day of job — pruning a locust tree at the front of the house and three maples in the back garden — it was a pleasure to have them. The three-person crew was knowledgeable, efficient, professional and friendly. They listened to what we wanted and were extremely cooperative, but also gave up wise suggestions based on their experience, which we were happy to have. After all, they are the experts. The pruning to deliver more light into the back garden, and tidying up the locust at the front of the house was simply terrific. I could never have imagined it would turn out so well. It certainly exceeded our expectations and the cleanup job was in line with that. Based on our experience, I can fairly say that anyone looking for an arborist need look no further than Tim-O-Tree. You will not be disappointed. Best in the city, hands down.

We’ve just had our large oak tree trimmed by Tim-O-Tree and I’d like to thank the team for their excellent work. Green Thumb Tree Specialists’ 24/7 service is particularly helpful during emergencies. Our teammate found out the hard way when she experienced some weather damage to her trees, which looked risky.
The situation required someone to come to her house quickly, and they delivered. Within a few hours, the tree was removed safely and correctly. Based on her feedback, the crew was friendly, considerate, and professional all throughout, making for a stress-free experience.
While she didn’t need it at the time, it was good to know that they offered tree services for less urgent requests, such as scheduled tree cutting, stump grinding, tree trimming, and even snow removal.
They don’t exactly have a wide range of services, but what they offer, they do exceptionally well. We wish they offered more intensive tree treatments, but from what we see, they seem to be more of a generalist. So that’s something to consider.

Their team worked with remarkable speed
A massive branch unexpectedly came down from my maple tree, and they were at my house the same day to handle the emergency. They quickly and safely removed the fallen branch, and then proceeded to take down the rest of the tree super quick. Last but not least, Urban Tree Works is another tried and trusted arborist in Ottawa. It’s unique in that it’s a full-service company – it doesn’t just handle residential tree care, but also manages large tree assets through a geolocated inventory and tracking data.
From what we see, its inventory and consulting services are in high demand among developers, the private sector, and even municipalities. They’re ideal for big projects because they have the capacity to handle them.
We learned of them because our office building hired them to handle some tree emergencies on the property, and we found them to work efficiently and safely. Based on our conversations with some of their previous clients, the quality of their work is consistent.
What we like most is their holistic approach to caring for trees and plants. Their practices are research-backed, and this is evident in the results.
The prices can get expensive, but given the quality of their services, you get a good return on investment.

Awesome, swift and safe tree cutting and felling from the UTW team, especially in this tight space. Ian and his crew made short work of our massive spruce that loomed over our house. Great clean up job afterwards too, and the price was right! Thanks boys! Prior to the job, Ian met with me, answered at length all of my questions and made other recommendations for our property, which was very appreciated. The permit was obtained quickly from the city and Ian and his crew showed up at the appointed time, worked diligently and professionally, and everything was completed within 6 hours.
