Great Canadian Oil Change is one of the most famous chains for car maintenance services in the country, and for several good reasons.
For starters, one of our favourite things about this shop is its convenient “stay-in-your-car” service. It has a quick turnaround time of approximately 15 minutes, and as the name suggests, you won’t have to leave your car for the utmost convenience and comfort.
We also like this shop because you can find them virtually anywhere in Canada, and we’ve never had a negative experience with any branch.
Great Canadian Oil Change is also a jack-of-all-trades, offering a wide array of other car maintenance services that range from battery replacements to coolant services, wiper blade replacement, etc.
However, during our interviews with other customers, we discovered that their customer service attitude can be inconsistent. Some people were pleased with their experience, while others were treated rudely, so we hope they can be more consistent with the good service.

Midas is well-known in Canada for its tire selection, but a lot of my gearhead friends recommended it to me for its oil change services. We also interviewed previous clients who availed of this service, and they shared how fast it was.
Regulars have also expressed their appreciation for the comfortable waiting area in the shop. This area comes complete with comfy leather chairs, complimentary coffee, and a long desk, where customers can do a bit of remote work while waiting for their cars.
The customer service was also frequently mentioned during our interviews, highlighting the staff’s friendliness and sense of humour.
We’ve also been here once for a tire change, and we can relate, as the person who serviced us was so easy to work with, and he didn’t hard-sell us anything.
The only downside we’ve heard from our interviewees is the steep price. However, it fascinates us that even with this, they continue to go here for oil changes, which is a telling sign of the shop’s workmanship.

Mr. Lube + Tires is another staple in the auto world, mainly because it’s been a reputable company since 1976. It’s also one of the most reliable names in Canadian households because it offers every car maintenance service there is.
We also reached out to regulars of this garage, and one of the things we agreed on was the knowledgeable mechanics. These professionals often go beyond their services by offering tips on how to take care of our cars better.
A handful of our interviewees also expressed appreciation for their patience in answering a range of questions, from beginner-friendly to more complex issues.
Mr. Lube + Tires can also be found across the country, so you won’t have trouble in terms of accessibility, as you can always find one in emergency cases, or one that’s close to you.
The only thing we wish they’d improve is offering more coupons or at least a loyalty program for their regulars.

Roy Rump & Sons Tire & Auto Centre is a historical Ottawa site for gearheads, having been around since 1956. This experience is perfectly translated to their services as well, as their regulars say that this shop is one of the easiest to work with.
Although it’s not our go-to because it only features one branch, which is a bit inconvenient from our location, we stopped by it once for a tire alignment, and it was a fantastic experience. For starters, everything was smooth, even though we were walk-in clients.
We also interviewed customers who had their oil changed, and the consensus was primarily positive. They highlighted how the mechanic worked closely with them, even providing them with car diagnostics without asking.
Visiting it was a treat as well, as it retains some of its old-timey charm, as seen with the classic car and gas pump in front of the store.
However, aside from its single location, our concern here is the limited operating hours, as they’re only open four days a week.
Second to none
“My experiences with Roy Rump have not only been amongst the best experiences I have had with an auto mechanic in Ottawa, but in fact anywhere! Their inspection report is second to none; clear, concise and thorough.
Each issue with the car is indicated with pictures in a colour-coded priority list that makes it clear what must be done immediately, through to the items that are good as is, and everything in between.
The staff was extremely friendly and more than happy to explain the report and answer any of my questions.
Prices were very reasonable and, while I’m sure they are not the cheapest in the city, they were far from the expense of bringing the vehicle to a dealer! Very appropriate for the level of service they provide.
In each case, they provided me with a reasonable estimate of the time I could expect for the car to be inspected and the final work to be done. And in each case, they provided both in far better times than they originally said.
I can’t say that it would always be the case, but in my experience, they have had my car ready within a working day!! They have their reputation for a reason, and I highly recommend their service”

Speedy Auto Service was recommended to us by a friend who recently had their tires changed. He was over the moon with the service, which included a bunch of vouchers: a free brake inspection with every service and 50% off discounts.
These coupons piqued our interest enough to stop by their shop one day for an oil change, and we were impressed! Not only were the coupons actual, but the turnaround time was unexpectedly quick as well.
The mechanics who worked on our car were highly efficient, as we watched them work like well-oiled machines. They even provided us with a free quotation before starting with the service itself.
However, during our interviews, we also learned that their customer service can be inconsistent. For instance, a handful of our interviewees complained about the hard-selling of the staff members, while others found them rude.
