The 5 Best Corporate Lawyers in Ottawa Who’ll Save Your Business’s Butt

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Local Experience: We picked law firms with a strong history of helping local businesses because lawyers who actually know the Ottawa market can give advice that fits what you need.

  • Service Range: We chose teams that can help you with everything, from setting up your business to handling big deals and mergers, so you’re covered at every stage.

  • Transparent Pricing: No one likes surprise costs. That’s why we focused on lawyers who are upfront about their prices, either with clear hourly rates or easy-to-understand flat fees.

  • Accessibility: Finally, you need legal help that’s there when you need it most. We chose firms where you can actually reach senior lawyers quickly if something urgent comes up.

If you’re a startup founder figuring out shareholder agreements or a small business owner dealing with commercial leases, you know how stressful it is to handle contracts and corporate rules by yourself.

The right legal counsel really makes all the difference when you’re trying to protect your business and keep it growing. You need someone who actually understands your challenges, not just any lawyer who hands you a massive bill.

That’s exactly why we’ve spent time finding the best corporate lawyer in Ottawa for different business needs. Let’s check out some solid options that’ll help you move forward!

How much does hiring a corporate lawyer cost in Ottawa?

1. Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP/s

perley-robertson-hill-mcdougall-llps

Website:https://perlaw.ca/

Address: 1400-340 Albert St.

Contact: 613.238.2022 | 613.238.8775 | [email protected]

Hours: No hours listed

Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP/s really stands out because they have a huge local team with over 50 lawyers based right in the National Capital Region. And because they’ve been in Ottawa for so long, they truly get the local market.

One local executive we talked to worked with their business law group and said it was a huge relief to always have quick access to senior professionals when they had to deal with a tough cross-border deal.

Their team can handle almost any business need, like financing or dealing with FINTRAC requirements.

But since this firm is so big and covers a lot of areas, the experience feels less personal. If you’re a new startup founder, you might find their big structure a bit overwhelming if you want that close, boutique-style connection.

Pros

  • Longstanding local presence
  • Broad corporate capabilities
  • Specialists for complex deals
  • Access to senior partners

Cons

  • Not a boutique, personal vibe

2. Tierney Stauffer LLP

Website:https://www.tslawyers.ca/

Address: 510-1600 Carling Avenue

Contact: 613-728-8057 | 613-728-9866 | [email protected]

Hours: Tuesday-Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Getting the right financing is one of the toughest parts of growing a business. Tierney Stauffer LLP helps with this by bringing more than 30 years of experience and deep know-how to the table.

Their senior lawyer, Stephen Tierney, is even authorized for Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) cases, which we’ve seen gives local business owners a big edge when chasing funding.

The newer lawyers pick up skills straight from the veterans, so you get different budget options too.

If you have employees, their team can also handle any workplace legal issues that come up.

But keep in mind, their physical offices are all in Ontario, so if you plan to expand outside the province, you’ll need a different lawyer for those areas.

Pros

  • Long-term counsel history
  • Specialized BDC financing help
  • Broad transaction coverage
  • Integrated real estate support

Cons

  • Offices restricted to Ontario

They listened well, provided helpful insight and advice

Jasmine Workun-Hill and the team at Tierney Stauffer LLP were a pleasure to work with on an issue we needed help navigating.  They listened well, provided helpful insight and advice, and gave us guardrails and suggestions to support decisions we needed to make. Our issue was time-sensitive, and they were there to support when we needed them.  Thank you Jasmine!

A lot of business owners feel uncomfortable with law firms that seem too stuffy or corporate, but Mann Lawyers LLP changes all that by fostering a super-friendly, genuine culture.

When we had them review a commercial lease, their approachable attitude made the whole process a lot less stressful.

What’s great is they offer full support at every stage, so you can count on the same team from your startup days to big acquisitions down the road.

Their team puts in extra effort with due diligence, helping you spot hidden tax problems or IP risks before you buy a business. Plus, they work with both huge companies and smaller non-profits, so anyone can feel welcome.

However, their only physical locations are in Ottawa and Perth, which means you’ll handle any out-of-town legal needs by phone or video.

Pros

  • Full business-lifecycle support
  • Detailed acquisition due diligence
  • Counsel for multiple parties
  • Supports various business structures

Customer Reviews

She was super responsive, easy to talk to, and very practical with her advice

I hired this firm this summer to handle 2 cases for me. Night and day difference between them and the last firm. Maggie is absolutely amazing. She’s an absolute shark, and always looking out for her clients interest. She was super responsive, easy to talk to, and very practical with her advice. I won’t use another firm besides Mann and Maggie from now on for all my business needs.

Very good service

I have used Mann Lawyers as our corporate attorney and they have been great. My dealings are mainly with Jade Renaud and she has been helpful in guiding our corporation. She is pleasant to deal with, always truthful, and straight forward. Very good service. As with all law firms, there is a price attached to the greta service, but it is well worth the advice and I guess it is the cost of doing business.

The only catch is that their scheduling isn’t very flexible. You’ll have to book your meetings during regular weekdays since they don’t offer evening or weekend appointments.

Pros

They’ve been a trusted name in the city since 1976. With that, you’ll get broad support for business loans and purchases. Plus, they draft strong commercial leases and handle basic business registrations smoothly, which clients appreciate.

In-person visits are simple, too, with free parking at Billings Bridge Plaza.

Cannot recommend KMH Lawyers enough. I was fortunate enough to work with Ariel Rubin Fried to incorporate my business, and his services along with Trish Haley went above and beyond. Incredible attention to detail and professionalism. I appreciate their hard work and efforts, a very enjoyable experience! Thank you!

Never saw such a reliable team

We have been clients of KMH Lawyers for over 10 years.  Originally to update our estate documents.  Since then we have had the joy of working with Ms. Vale-Peters on Corporate and Employment matters.  Never saw such a reliable team, let alone lawyer.  KMH can help you no matter your issues.  Great team!
