Capital Choice Counselling piqued our interest because they offer several types of psychotherapy. They do cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and

interpersonal therapy to help various clientele.

We’re impressed by their fantastic roster of counsellors who offer different languages. Furthermore, they offer different expertise, with some specialising in mental health issues like PTSD, depression, anxiety and more.

We also appreciate how they’re spread out to different parts of Ottawa. Plus, if you can’t make it to their offices, you can always schedule virtual appointments—a plus for convenience!

We do wish they could extend their services throughout the weekends, as we understand that some people aren’t free on weekdays.

Plus, their prices are on the more expensive side. However, given their expertise, we’re confident that you’re getting the best value for your money.

Cons

I will continue to attend

“Capital Choice Counselling Group has been offering seminars at St. Paul University for the past several years, and I have attended quite a few of them.  As a therapist, I take any opportunity to continue educating myself and to learn about being a better spouse and mother.

The topics have varied over the years, but the focus remains on family and marriage.  Most recently, I attended the “online dating” seminar, it really opened my eyes.

It made it relevant the fact that one of the presenters spoke of her own online dating experience.  I like the informal format and the opportunity to ask questions. I will continue to attend.”

Informative, educational, insightful and entertaining

“I have attended many of the Relationships Matter seminars sponsored by the Capital Choice Counselling Group, and have always found them informative, educational, insightful and entertaining.

The speakers are generally very well-informed and wonderful communicators. The sessions on Happiness and Advice on making relationships work have been among my favourites. It is a wonderful way to spend an evening and meet interesting and like-minded people.

My only complaint is that it is often difficult to arrive by 7:00 PM on a worknight, and I preferred the Friday night format (compared to the current Thursday schedule). I plan to attend more in the future and have recommended them to friends as well!”

I could sum up Salus in Domino Psychotherapy with a single phrase: C’est magnifique! It’s led by one of the most reliable Psychologist in Ottawa, Dr. Langley.

She has over 30 years of experience in therapeutic sentencing for individuals facing problems with the law. Moreover, she worked within the Canadian Navy and as an employee assistance therapist.

Nowadays, Dr. Langley brings her expertise to Salus in Domino Psychotherapy to offer family counselling, marriage counselling, and individual therapy for adolescents and youth.

Her pièce de résistance is that she offers counselling services in French and English. Even better, she offers conventional face-to-face counselling and virtual sessions via Zoom.

Dr. Langley is a devout Roman Catholic Christian counsellor, so she’s open to discuss faith. She offers spiritual counselling services and encourages clients to develop more discipline with their spiritual lives.

Dr. Langley believes virtues like fortitude, temperance, charity, and perseverance are the keys to a healthy mind and joie de vivre (enjoyment of life). Also, she works with addictions but often only in a forensic setting.

If there’s one thing we’d like improved, it’s her operating hours. Salus in Domino is closed on Sundays, which could make it difficult for some to avail services.

You may check out some testimonials from her happy clients in English and French. What’s more, her website features free blogs and other valuable resources.

Pros

  • 30+ years of experience
  • Caters to different mental health issues
  • Specializes in dealing with adolescents and the youth
  • Warm and inviting personality

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays

Rory is a safe space and so committed to his clients

“Update: I wrote this review 3 years ago. I’ve now been seeing Rory for almost 5 years. I don’t need therapy the way I did when I started, but Rory has continued to be a safe space for me to talk about my life and unpack all my feelings, and then repack them in a more constructive and healthy way. I continue to see Rory because he adds so much value to my life through his insights, his continued pursuit of learning different therapy methods, and he’s not afraid to call me out on my BS, which I find helpful. I’ve joked that I now carry his voice around in my head and when I feel like I’m slipping into an unhealthy pattern I will ask myself “What would Rory say?” And I work from there.

Rory is a safe space and so committed to his clients. Thank you for everything and for helping me be a healthier, happier and more well rounded version of myself 🙏🏻

Original review:

I’ve been a client of Rory’s for about a year and a half. I reached out to him as a potential client in the midst of terrible depression caused by many things, but exasperating it all was the pandemic. My first few appointments were essentially me crying and Rory listening, I started off feeling exhausted afterwards. Rory was compassionate, understanding, and offered insights and suggestions to help me start moving forward. I quickly trusted Rory and accepted his guidance and help. My life has turned upside down and changed dramatically for the better in the last year. I know myself infinitely better, my depression and anxiety are under much better control and I’m making steps to have a life that is in line with what I want and that is in sync with my values. I always feel excited for my appointments, and energized afterwards.

Rory…I will never be able to properly express how grateful I am to what you offer the clients in your care. Thank you so much.”

Open-minded, caring, supportive and curious

“Having Rory Batchilder as my therapist has been an extraordinary experience. He has guided me to work on my own issues in such effective and efficient ways. With the help of clear methods, and a lot of useful information, Rory suggests some quite interesting readings (books, articles), and a variety of available online resources that is helping me to identify and to clarify how I repeat my life traps.

Rory is definitely open-minded, caring, supportive and curious. I always look forward for my next session, these moments when I feel I’m in a safe space to say whatever I want and need. Rory brings my focus back to the work on myself whenever I digress a bit. And we also burst into laughter a few times. It has truly been an awakening and self-enriching journey for me.

Thank you so much, Rory.”

Ottawa Counselling and Psychotherapy is one of the most versatile centres in Ottawa. For starters, we loved how they offered a wide variety of licensed psychotherapists, with each one varying in approaches to therapy and overall specialties.

We also appreciated how they made it easy for patients to find the right therapists through their website. You can easily sort their roster by inputting details such as insurance coverage, location, type of session, languages, pricing and more!

Going back to the aforementioned approaches, we love that they recognise that each patient requires a specific type of approach to their issues. One that stood out to us was their prolonged exposure therapy, which helps patients confront and eventually overcome their traumas.

Another thing we love about Ottawa Counselling and Psychotherapy is that their fees are super reasonable! Plus, they’re transparent about their fees, as they’ll display the therapists’ rates on their website.

We did notice some previous clients voicing out their dismay about last-minute cancellations, which could be bothersome. This is, however, a case to case basis, so if they can communicate their schedules better, they’re perfect!

Pros

  • Wide array of therapeutic approaches
  • Tackles different types of addictions and traumas
  • Features several locations across Ottawa and Toronto
  • Offers virtual and in-person sessions

Cons

  • Reports of last-minute cancellations

Kind, compassionate and understanding

“I have been coming here for several years and began with seeing Yoshie Martinez who is an amazing counsellor. She is kind, compassionate, and understanding.

In my experience, she goes above and beyond for her clients and you can tell how passionate she is about what she does! I have also seen several other therapists in this office including students and have had nothing but amazing experiences.

The environment is very warm and welcoming. I find it very helpful that many of the counsellors have come from different specialties with differing skill sets prior to becoming therapists. Each of them has had their own unique client-centred approach.

Sessions have always been on time and I have been notified of any scheduling changes in advance. I have no complaints with my experience and highly recommend this place for anyone seeking therapy!”

-Crystal Campbell, Google Review

Super kind and welcoming!

“I had my first in-person session with Aisley and it went better than I expected I was extremely nervous but Aisley was super kind and welcoming! I’ve never experienced therapy before but she made me feel comfortable and was a great listener. I will definitely be back to see her.”

Speaking of counsellors, we love their team of mental health professionals because of how well-received they are by their previous patients whom we’ve interviewed.

We’ve heard how great their therapists were at creating a private and comfortable space, which is always something we look for in these clinics. This gave us the impression that they recognise the importance of building trust with their patients.

As for the psychotherapy sessions themselves, they can cater to different issues like general anxiety, depression, burnout, obsessive-compulsive disorder and more.

One thing we wish they would implement is virtual sessions. We feel like this day and age calls for this type of therapy since not everyone has the same amount of availability.

  • Offers a wide variety of services
  • Features several locations across Canada
  • Easy to contact

Cons

  • Lack of virtual sessions

YourTherapist Psychotherapy and Counselling is highly recommended by their previous patients whom we interviewed mainly because of their personable therapists. They spoke highly about how their counsellors displayed such compassion, which we immediately gravitated towards.

Our confidence in this clinic’s abilities only grew further when we saw the scope of their services. Seeing how they offer different types of counselling such as career, family, kids and couples counselling, gave us the impression that they recognise different types of issues.

We also wanted to highlight their individual therapy sessions, as we were interested in how they approach them as collaborative experiences. We do want to say that these sessions wouldn’t work like they do if it weren’t for the therapists creating a safe space so props to them!

One thing that could throw off some potential patients is the clinic’s slightly pricier rates compared to other establishments in the area. If you have the means, however, this clinic has some of the best people to help you in your path to wellness!

“Amazing place, very welcoming and accommodating. Dr. Zahra Nafhar is an amazing therapist and really cares about her patients. She goes the extra mile and is great about sharing resources.

The tech support is great as well as the scheduling and reception. The place is centrally located with underground parking and easy access via LRT and buses. I am so grateful for all the guidance and care I have received from Zahra Nafar.

I would recommend this therapist without any hesitancy to anyone in my close circle. I feel very lucky to be a patient of this amazing clinic. You will not be disappointed. The clinic also does appointments online for our convenience.”

Serene Counselling & Psychotherapy offers some of the best individual counselling and psychotherapy sessions mainly because of how they do things. For starters, each patient will start with an assessment and from there, the therapist will develop a personalised treatment.

We also appreciated how they offer different innovative approaches like cognitive behavioural therapy, experimental therapy and guided imagery. We asked them about their guided imagery solution, and they said that it has helped patients address a specific psychological need.

From finances to couple dynamics, mood patterns, unhealed wounds and more, they can solve just about every problem that couples face.

The only downside we see with this clinic is that it’s out of the way from Ottawa’s city centre, but this is nitpicking at this point since you can opt for their online sessions. Plus, it’s well worth the drive since you’ll get quality therapy sessions in exchange.
