So, I checked out local stores for quality, variety, and value. These are the spots that can turn a spare room into a gym you’ll actually use.
How much does fitness equipment cost in Ottawa?
Fitness equipment prices in Ottawa vary widely. Small accessories usually cost $15 to $30, while dumbbells and kettlebells start at around $14 or $0.98 to $1.55 per pound.

The downside is that leasing isn’t automatically available to everyone. You’ll need to pass a formal approval process before signing up.

I’ve learned that building a home gym doesn’t have to mean sacrificing the grocery budget. Luckily, Décathlon Ottawa keeps prices reasonable by designing and producing much of its gear in-house.
The store covers dozens of sports, so it’s handy when my routine wanders beyond weights and cardio. I can grab resistance bands, yoga mats, and other basics without visiting three different shops.
Loyalty members also get a generous 365-day return window, which takes some pressure off bigger purchases. It’s a practical choice for anyone testing new workouts without spending a fortune.
The catch is that non-members only get 30 days, and returns must still look untouched with their tags attached.
Décathlon also doesn’t provide home warranty repairs, so faulty machines must be brought in and may take up to six weeks to fix.

Sturdy Adjustable Dumbbells and Fast Support
The Decabell dumbbells are awesome! They are easy to use, and you get a huge range from 5-80 lbs in 5lb increments. They are also built sturdy and feel like quality materials. I’ve always liked the idea of giving old gym gear another round instead of sending it to landfill. Play It Again Sports makes that easy with locally sourced, pre-owned equipment from people in the community.
Each branch is independently owned, so the experience feels less like a giant chain and more like a neighbourhood shop.
You can also walk in without an appointment and trade unwanted gear for cash or store credit! That makes it especially handy when you’re upgrading a home gym without starting from scratch.
You might even find a solid bench or set of weights for far less than buying new.
The downside is that mail-order returns come with a very tight seven-day window. You’ll also have to pay the return freight yourself, which can make a bargain feel much heavier.
