I spy with my little eye a bump that’s looking like someone’s been late for a couple of months now… Yeah, that’s when I knew my coworker was expecting. It was her first pregnancy, so our break times turned into Q&A sessions about cravings, baby names, and, of course, giving birth.
That’s when she dropped the bombshell—she wanted a midwife. (NEWS FLASH: IT’S FREE.) She wanted seasoned pros guiding her through the whole journey, from prenatal to postpartum—her husband, apparently, was only in charge of dad jokes.
Let me tell you, these folks are the real MVPs—Most Valuable Pregnancy-whisperers! That’s why we reviewed the top midwifery services in Ottawa. If you’re looking to swap panic for peace of mind, these miracle workers have got your back (and your bump).
How much do midwifery services cost in Ottawa?
Midwifery services in Ottawa are fully funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Health, so residents typically do not pay for midwifery care. However, if you don’t have OHIP, you might be responsible for additional costs like ultrasounds, hospital stays, or specialist consultations.
1. Midwifery Group of Ottawa

Address: 265 Carling Ave Unit 700
Phone: +1 613-729-9957
Business hours: Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 4PM
One of the best things about the Midwifery Group of Ottawa is that it offers a seamless experience from pregnancy to postpartum. Their midwives are authorized to order lab work and ultrasounds and even prescribe certain medications related to pregnancy.
It’s reassuring to know they provide the same level of routine prenatal care as other healthcare providers, and they can even manage epidurals and inductions of labour.
Another major plus is that they support deliveries at multiple locations. Whether you prefer Montfort Hospital, the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre, or even your own home, they help you make the best decision for your comfort.
Many mothers have shared how much they appreciated the support and guidance they received. From the moment you walk in, you can tell how accommodating the team is. They take their time to answer questions, give tips, and make sure you feel confident without feeling rushed.
The downside? They’re closed on weekends, which can be inconvenient if you need urgent non-emergency consultations. Still, they provide solid care that many families trust.
Kind and supportive
“So grateful for the care I received from the Midwifery Group of Ottawa. They are so kind and supportive. Appointments are very informative and not rushed and the postpartum follow-up is fantastic. Would recommend the experience to anyone!”

Best medical experience
“Easily the best medical experience I have ever had. Can’t say enough about how amazing Maija and Sara are. Extremely knowledgeable, kind, caring, and generally amazing people :). They were absolutely incredible before, during, and after birth. I can’t imagine where we would be without them.”

2. Midwifery Collective of Ottawa

Address: 88 Centrepointe Dr, Nepean
Phone: +1 613-730-2323
Business hours:
- Monday: 9 AM – 4 PM
- Tuesday to Thursday: 9 AM – 4:30 PM
- Friday: 9 AM – 3 PM
With over 30 years of experience and nearly 400 babies delivered each year, the Midwifery Collective of Ottawa has certainly built a reputation in the city.
Their midwives are fully registered and can handle everything from epidurals to oxytocin management. While many midwifery clients tend to avoid epidurals, it’s good to know they’re experienced in supporting those who choose them.
A standout feature of this practice is its in-clinic testing. Unlike some places that send you elsewhere for blood work or ultrasounds, they can perform many of these tests on-site, which is a huge time-saver.
They also offer a choice of birthplace, including The Ottawa Hospital – Civic Campus, The Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre, or even at home.
We also appreciate their multilingual services, offering care in English, French, Spanish, and Russian, making midwifery more accessible to a diverse range of families.
The only bummer is that they’re closed on weekends, which can be a bit annoying if you have a busy week. But if you’re looking for experienced and flexible midwifery care, they’re a dependable choice.
Had the most amazing birth
“I had the most amazing pregnancy and birth thanks to the support of my lovely midwife Millie Dean she was always so caring and knowledgeable, she made me feel very comfortable and empowered with all my decisions. I also had the pleasure to meet Emily, Jess and Vanessa who assisted my birth and they were all wonderful!!! I’m so grateful for them and would go back for my second pregnancy in a heartbeat.”

Absolutely reassuring and supportive
“Midwifery Collective of Ottawa has the best set of midwives any pregnant mother could ask for. Brigid, Melissa and McKinsey are the absolute best. They listened to all my concerns and provided the best solutions in each case. They were absolutely reassuring and supportive during my home birth and I couldn’t have asked for any better. The post-natal appointments are thorough and not rushed. I wholeheartedly recommend their practice and would choose them again for my next baby.”

3. Ottawa South Midwives

Address: 4112 Albion Rd S, Gloucester
Phone: +1 613-822-6646
Business hours: Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
What caught our attention about Ottawa South Midwives is the range of pain relief options they offer.
Many people assume midwifery means only natural pain relief, but they actually provide everything from TENS machines and water immersion to nitrous oxide, narcotics, and even epidurals (available in hospitals).
They also emphasize choice when it comes to birthplace, whether at home, The Ottawa Hospital – Civic Campus, or the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre.
It’s also a thoughtful touch that they encourage expecting parents to attend their Choice of Birthplace Information Night, which helps make an informed decision.
Their midwives are also highly knowledgeable and reassuring, especially for tricky cases like gestational diabetes or breech presentations.
But we’re a bit iffy about their 3-5 business day initial wait time. It’s not terribly long, but when you’re eager to get things started, waiting to hear back can feel a little frustrating. Even so, their thorough and informative approach makes them a great option.
A wonderful experience
“I had such a wonderful experience with the care given by the Ottawa South Midwives. The process of bringing a child into the world is a rollercoaster of emotions and I will never forget the support and confidence I felt from my midwives. It felt like I was making lifelong friends who also happened to know everything about being pregnant, being in labour and what to do with a newborn baby. I would highly recommend a Midwife any chance you get!”

The best decision
“I decided to go with a midwife for my second child and it was the best decision. I felt so cared for and able to ask questions my entire pregnancy. Appointments were more in depth and I was explained everything and given options. I delivered at the Civic with the support of Liliane and Beth who made the experience personal and supported my needs and decisions. We were able to have an early release with a healthy baby boy which made a world of a difference. Liliane and Beth both visited me and my son at home and felt like part of our family! I highly recommend Ottawa South Midwives, Liliane and Beth.”

4. Ottawa Valley Midwives

Address: 2039 Robertson Rd #244
Phone: +1 613-253-3148
Business hours: By Appointment
Ottawa Valley Midwives has been around since 1998 and has grown into a busy practice with 12 midwives.
A noteworthy aspect of their care is the structured model—each client is assigned two or three midwives to ensure familiarity and trust throughout the pregnancy. This continuity is something many patients value, especially when dealing with such a personal experience.
Their sessions are also longer than what you might get at a typical doctor’s office. With 45-minute appointments, there’s plenty of time to ask questions and get detailed answers without feeling rushed. This is a huge plus, especially for first-time parents who have a lot of concerns.
Another thing that makes them accessible is their multilingual team, offering care in English, French, Russian, and Greek. They also have two convenient locations, one in Bells Corners and another in Carleton Place.
However, the Bells Corners Ottawa location only takes appointments, so you can’t just pop in if you have a quick question or concern. Regardless, their structured approach and longer appointment times make them a trustworthy pick for midwifery care.
Great experience for a first time mom
“I was a first time mom and we had a great experience at Ottawa Valley Midwives. They were understanding, provided great education when we had questions and provided an excellent level of care. We highly recommend them and will be using them for our next child!”
-Megan Maguire, Google Review
The care is personalized
“I have used OVM for both of my children’s pregnancy & births. Pascale, & Saija were part of both, I also got to know Amélie & Joanne with my second. The level of care provided by the midwife team was beyond what I could have expected as a first time mom and just as amazing the second time. There’s no feeling rushed or unimportant. The care is so personalized, you are fully informed, you feel confident in their care, can trust you always have lots of time at each visit, their vast knowledge always available, and full support no matter what the journey may bring and choices you make….”

5. East Ottawa Midwives – Sages-femmes de l’est d’Ottawa

Address: 5310 Canotek Rd #202, Gloucester
Phone: +1 613-745-1711
Business hours: Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
East Ottawa Midwives provides a range of pain relief options for labour, whether natural or pharmaceutical. They also support epidurals and inductions at l’Hôpital Montfort, ensuring clients have access to medical interventions if needed.
Birthplace options include home, l’Hôpital Montfort, and the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre. They’re also trained in water immersion and waterbirth, though the latter is only available at home or the birth centre (not at the hospital).
If you’re considering a waterbirth, they’ll even help you with pool rental options. Their clinic is conveniently located near the 417 with free parking and easy public transit access, making visits stress-free.
One thing we did notice is that some clients felt the services could be a little more personalized. It’s not that the care wasn’t good—it’s just that some parents wanted a more tailored approach from prenatal to postpartum.
That said, if you have specific preferences, it’s best to communicate them clearly early on to ensure you get the experience you’re hoping for.
An amazing experience
“I had an amazing experience! My midwives Marie Eve and Grace were both super competent, kind, and thorough. I felt so supported and had an entirely different experience than my first time around with an ob. I wish I had gone with these ladies my first pregnancy too. Could not recommend them enough!”
-Bridget Smith, Google Review
Appointments were so positive and laid back
“Grace has helped bring both my babies into the world and she’s just the best. All our appointments were so positive and laid back. I never felt rushed, all my questions were validated and answered. When ever I had to bring my toddler to appointments with me, she was welcomed and included. I always left the office feeling good and empowered. I had a hospital birth with my first and a home birth for my second, both went very smoothly and Grace and Melanie brought a calming and confident feeling to the room. I will definitely be going back if/when we have a third.”
