The Papery

Since 1986, The Papery has been a fixture on Bank Street in Ottawa’s Glebe neighborhood, witnessing area changes while remaining resilient even after a devastating fire.

The Papery sells all sorts of stationery items like Japanese origami, scrapbooks, scrapbooking materials, cards, notebooks, book covers, and so much more. You can also customize your own paper or create a notebook from scratch! 

At The Papery, besides stationery, you’ll discover puzzles, painting supplies, party items, wrapping paper, and calendars. Don’t miss their limited edition advent calendars during Christmas!

The Papery has an online collection where you can purchase items from their website and have them delivered to your place. The items, however, are limited. 

For a better range of items, it’s still best to check out the physical store.

Paper Papier is one of the stationery staples in Ottawa with the largest collection of fine pens. The store has been providing Ottawans with writing instruments, floral designs, gifts, and cards since 1982! 

If you’re an avid fine pen collector, Paper Papier’s collection has different kinds like glass quills, feathered quills, gold fountain pens, and even pens from known brands like Lamy, Sailor, and Leuchtturm. 

You’ll also find a handful of artworks and paints available for sale. If you need to refill your arts and crafts stash or simply want to look for a new pen to add to your collection, this store should be on your radar. 

Paper Papier is located within ByWard Market, and the area has limited parking space. However, you can park in other nearby establishments. 

We highly recommend coming here on foot or dropping by as early as their opening hours to get a parking slot!

For stationery that’s centered on fun and party-like themes, The Gifted Type is a store to look out for. This stationery store offers a large array of quirky and fun gift items like cards, puzzles, agendas, planners, and stickers for all sorts of uses. 

There are also lots of kids’ stuff here like plushies, toys, games, and nursery books available for sale. The store has a collection of limited edition or special versions of known games like UNO and Lingo that are family-friendly. 

You also have the option to refill your notebooks, journals, and agendas with new paper from their collection. They’ve got the materials and service to attach or rebind them for you for an extra charge. 

The Gifted Type offers shipping all over Canada and the United States. Their delivery fees are based on the weight of the package and its destination, but they do offer free shipping around Canada if you purchase items above $100.

For wedding-centric stationery services, Stephita is a store you should consider if you’re looking for a vendor to create wedding invites and other paper accessories. The store offers different kinds of paper-cutting services for invites. 

Their most popular services include laser cutting, wax sealing, foil printing, embossed lettering, letterpress, and acrylic invitation printing. They can do these across a wide range of papers and materials, from Japanese paper to velvet. 

Most of their standard wedding stationery starts at $2.99 per piece, depending on the size and amount you order. Their stationery services are fully customizable, and if you’re unsure of what you want, they can recommend a few templates.

Stephita is well-versed in creating cultural gifts and stationery for customers who want to have their ethnicity represented in their invites or accessories. The team can translate your invites or create destination invitations for you. 

Their delivery fees for orders within Canada are at a flat rate of $40. 

The Village Quire

The store is run by founder Molly van der Schee, who personally does the wrapping for customers who drop by The Village Quire on days she’s working there. She can help you choose and customize your cards and gift wrap on the spot! 

A few brands she carries are Lucia, which is a Canadian brand of bath and body gifts, Campy Candles, which is a line of scented candles and home scents, and Compendium, which is a book, journal, and card line. 

The Village Quire currently doesn’t offer deliveries outside of Canada. If you shop online, they offer free delivery across Canada for purchases above $45. 

Midori Gifts

Midori Gifts also sells quirky accessories like milk tea stud earrings, Hello Kitty keychains, Sanrio pouches, and more. You don’t have to fly to Japan just to get your hands on these goodies!

Midori Gifts also offers custom gift wrapping for an additional fee, which will be calculated based on the type of wrap you choose, the size, and amount of items you want wrapped.

Michaels is one of the largest crafts store chains in Ottawa, so you’ll find almost everything you may need related to stationery here. They’re mostly known for party crafts and scrapbooking, but you can also find decor, stamps, paints, and frames. 

You can choose items based on themes or special yearly events like Easter, Christmas, or Valentine’s Day. They’ve also got a few known brands in their collection such as Make Market, Imagin8, Craft Smart, and Loops & Threads. 

Michaels is also a store to visit if you’re looking to refill your journals and notebooks with new paper or refill your stash of office supplies.

Visit DeSerres for a wide array of art supplies including paints, canvases, paper, and stationery. While specializing in painting supplies, they also offer a diverse selection of scrapbooking and creative hobby items.

They sell pottery and sculpting supplies, knitting materials, coloring books, decorative paints, papercrafts, and DIY candle-making kits. 

If you’re after thoughtful gifts or wholesome hobbies you can try by yourself or with a friend, they offer paint-by-the-number kits at reasonable prices. You can choose from dozens of designs, difficult levels, and canvas sizes! 

DeSerres offers art classes in-store or online for customers who want to get started on basic painting or arts and crafts as a hobby. 

You can purchase items and materials you’ll need for the class and head over to the DeSerres Studio to participate.

If you need to get some papers reprinted or photocopied, there’s a self-service solutions kiosk in Staples where you can get all your errands done for a small fee.
