JM Nutrition makes nutritional counselling very accessible in Canada. Aside from offering this all over Ottawa, they’re also available in various cities—handy if you’re a frequent traveller!

That’s not all! Their registered dietitians offer in-person and virtual appointments for adults, kids, companies, and institutions. What’s even more awesome is they have a large team to cater to many clients.

Although they offer free consultations, it’s a bummer you don’t actually speak with a practitioner due to busy schedules. But we found it very thorough, based on our experience.

These guys specialise in a lot of things. They offer dietitian services for weight loss/gain, disordered eating, sports nutrition, health conditions, and more.

As for the prices, we, and most clients we spoke with, found them reasonable. A single session without a meal plan is $135, within the usual range in Ottawa, and we like their follow-up session packages that cater to different kinds of nutritional needs.

Pros

  • Large team
  • In-person and virtual appointments
  • Highly accessible
  • Lots of specialisations
  • Reasonable pricing

Cons

  • Initial consult is not with a practitioner

Amazing to work with

“Amazing to work with.  Flexible schedule.  Each dietician is specifically trained in different areas to help suit your struggling needs.  Affordable as they have value packages to make your money go further. Did I mention virtual visits so you can chat anywheres!!!   I’m really glad I did!”

-Amy Simmonds, Google Review

Very helpful and informative

“Reached out to JM Nutrition for some guidance on improving my gut health. I was able to have an initial free consultation to help match me with the right dietician. I was referred to Nadja to whom I had an appointment with. She was very thorough and went through all the foods that might be causing me discomfort and anxiety, along with recommendations on what foods I could incorporate instead. I found her to be very helpful and informative.”

Our staff really liked the Balanced Practice, an inclusive and client-centred dietitian service in Ottawa. And from what we’ve seen, their registered dietitians have the goods to back it up.

According to their stats, about 92% of clients who finished their program saw an increase in life quality. Frankly, it’s not surprising.

Their clients have noted their collaborative and non-judgemental approach. We were also glad to know that they support adults, teens, families, the LGBTQ+ community, and neurodivergent individuals.

We also appreciate their Eating Disorder Recovery Program because it supports those transitioning back into the world. Clients get access to individualised care, group sessions, and meal support.

Their availability impressed us, too. They offer in-person, virtual, and hybrid sessions in their Ottawa office.

Even though we think their free consultations could be longer (currently, it’s only 15 minutes), we don’t think it’s a massive issue since they’re open six days a week and don’t have long wait times.

Pros

  • Inclusive environment
  • Available for kids, teens, and adults
  • Supportive recovery program
  • Offers hybrid sessions
  • No long wait times

Cons

  • Free consultation could be longer

Knowledgeable, skilled and care deeply

“I’ve been working with Marie-Pier and her team for years now. The Balanced Practice is one of my top referrals for adjunct eating disorder treatment and we often work collaboratively. In a field where services are often lacking or not well treated, it is refreshing to work with professionals who are knowledgeable, skilled and care deeply about eating disorder treatment. I would absolutely recommend this practice to my clients.”

-Dr. Melisa Arias-Valenzuela, C. Psych., Google Review

Adapts to my needs

“Marie-Pier is a suberb dietician!  She is very knowledgeable and attentive. She adapts to my needs, listens to what I ask, and suggests new approaches that are tailored to my lifestyle. After looking over my diet, she created a meal plan that was based on the foods that I already eat!  I was very impressed by this because it made the change feel much easier – it just felt like I was eating my own regular food with a few tweaks.

I love that she is not one bit pushy, a very hoest person. She’s abolutely great I highly reccomend her!”

While most dietitians have limited openings, it’s fine since they do have several practitioners and they usually have flexible schedules.

Price-wise, they’re competitive. Initial assessments cost $150, which takes up to one hour—that’s pretty long!

Pros

  • Available for in-home appointments
  • Flexible schedules
  • Competitive Rates
  • Initial consultation is one hour

Cons

  • Some dietitians have limited openings

Amazing during our session

“After being told by our family doctor that we needed to see someone for our 2 year, I am so glad I found Charlene at Kennedy Nutrition. She was  amazing during our session, and reassured a very worried mom, that not only was our daughter doing great but that we were doing a great job making sure she has balanced meals & snacks. She offered a couple very helpful tips in such a kind way. Would strongly recommend.”

-Cyndi Jenkins, Google Review

Very personable

“I met with Charlene to discuss diet and nutrition and had a really positive experience.  Charlene is very personable and gave me a detailed assessment of my diet in a way that I could understand and that built my knowledge and confidence.  I’ve been really happy with my results following from our meeting.”

It wasn’t surprising when ProDietitians were in the top spots during our surveys in Ottawa. Our staff and the clients we conversed with were impressed with their approach to healthy eating.

They have three registered dietitians who focus on science-backed methods. We also like that they can help you integrate cultural beliefs into your diet—most clients noted their supportive and non-judgmental approach.

They’re also equipped to tackle various challenges, including gut health, chronic diseases, hormonal imbalance, and weight loss. Their weekly Dietitian Coaching services even include a 5-day meal kit delivered to your doorstep—convenient!

Booking is a breeze, too. They open slots six or seven days a week, and your free strategy call lasts 30 minutes. Our only issue is they’re strictly a virtual service.

Nonetheless, you get access to the ProCommunity, which provides live Q&As and 24/7 access to your dietitian. This is also a supportive network because of the regular check-ins and increased accountability.

Pros

  • Weekly service includes meal kits
  • Easy booking process
  • Helps integrate cultural beliefs into diet

“Working with Fatima was an absolute pleasure. Last one year with Fatima has changed my life style completely. So glad I found her. The 3 months session can be longer a year shows that how much she cares about the client. Thanks for being so supportive in my weight loss journey Fatima. Was recommending my friends and colleagues for last one year and will definitely keep doing it.”

There’s a dietitian in Ottawa that’s very easy to access—TeamNutrition has four offices in Ottawa and many more in other provinces. In addition, they’re available for online consultations.

They stick to personalised plans to cater to different needs, and they work with clients with various concerns. We like that they offer many different programs because it makes them even more accessible, including meal plans and pediatric nutrition.

Their wellness app really takes the spot. It’s called KoalaPro, a tool that provides access to nutrition challenges, support, and appointment bookings.

But there’s a catch: you only get the most out of the app by subscribing to the premium plan, which costs $20 a month. It’s not the most budget-friendly, but it has workouts and recipes.

The good thing is you don’t exactly need the premium plan because their registered dietitians, as mentioned by many clients, will provide a tailored plan that will work with your lifestyle and budget!

Pros

  • Four offices in Ottawa
  • Open for in-person and online sessions
  • Has a wellness app
  • Wide variety of programs

Cons

  • App’s premium plan is paid

Gave me a lot of great tips

“Katrina is amazing! Very responsive when I had a question outside our appointment time. She gave me a lot of great tips and recipe ideas that I am still using. Went to her for ongoing stomach issues, but can honestly say that I am feeling so much better. She is very knowledgeable and took the time to listen to my concerns. I really highly recommend.”

Provided us with small, doable changes

“My husband and I have been working with Katrina from Team Nutrition for a few months and have found her approach amazing. She is so knowledgeable and has provided us with small doable changes. She always considers our likes, dislikes and food allergies in all her suggestions. We also love that she provides us with great notes to recap our goals after each meeting and many great recipes to follow. We have seen great results so far. We would recommend working with Katrina to anyone!”
